In East Renfrewshire the NHW movement was revitalised in 2005 after a long period of slumber.

The NHW concept had commenced some 25 years earlier, however in 2005 there were only a few small local stand alone groups operating in this region.

There was an obvious need for an association to encompass, encourage and support membership of NHW and the ERNHW was born.

Up to this point NHW traditionally had been led by the Police Community Safety Department.

At this time we took the lead and altered the connection with the police, and we were then fully supported by Community Policing. 

This proved to be very beneficial with Community Policing and the Senior Police Management supporting this association in every aspect, so much that we have been in a position to grow to now embrace 85 Group Co-ordinators, in excess of 8000 Member households, 85 Businesses and 2 places of Worship.

We developed active partnerships in particular with East Renfrewshire Council and Strathclyde Fire & Rescue.   

In 2007 due to our innovative and pro active partnerships we were nominated for and received 4 National awards and are now justifiably regarded as the “Best in Scotland”.

We would wish to continue with this trend and take the NHW movement in this region foreward and develop it still further for the next 25 years.

Web Launch  

We officially launched the site on Friday 19th September 2008 at Voluntary Action premises in Barrhead. We were pleased to have 40 of our partners in attendence to mark the launch of our ground breaking web site.

Part of establishing an effective web site consists in placing searchable terms with search engines like Google. Once this has been undertaken these sites send in robots and spiders to check out the activity on the site, in terms of visitors and more importantly that it is constantly being updated and how much activity there is on the site. We on an almost daily basis receive visits from Googlebots, Yahoo Slurps, MSNBot-media, MSNBots, Ask 6+5 robots, Alexa (IA Archiver) and The web archive (IA Archiver) to name a few of the better known search enqines.

As a consequence we now sit third on the Google hit chart, just behind East Renfrewshire Council but we are closing fast.

We will be lauching our first promotional drive for the site in the new year, so we have no doubt that the site traffic will increase even more considerarably than it has to date. Thank you all for the very positive feedback on the site and for those of you taking the time to participate.

It has also been commented on very positively that there are now three elected members, who are taking a very active and much appreciated part in the Fireboard.

United States, Germany, Russian Federation, Netherlands, Malaysia, France, Norway, Denmark, Chile, Austria, Canada, Japan, China, Taiwan, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Sweden, Moldova, South Korea, Poland, Slovak Republic, Philippines, Ivory Coast (Cote D'Ivoire)

Since our launch and until now  (19/9/08 - 25/12/08) we have had 4752 visits and 91971 page views.
