Cash in Transit Robbery - Clarkston Print E-mail

Strathclyde Police is appealing for witnesses after two security guards were robbed at the Bank of Scotland in Clarkston on Monday 7 September 2009.

Around 10.20pm, two Group 4 security staff were carrying out their normal cash in transit deliveries at the Bank of Scotland in Busby Road, when they were accosted by a masked man carrying a weapon (not firearm).

The suspect forced the guards into the bank, emptied the ATM then placed the cash in the back of a waiting BMW. He then took the guards to their van, emptied this of cash and placed this in the car. The vehicle, which was being driven by another masked man, then fled the scene in the direction of Mearns Road with a six figure sum.

Police were contacted and officers carried out an immediate search of the area, however there was no trace of either suspect or the vehicle.

Description of suspects
The main suspect is described as a white male, late 30's - early 40's, approximately 5ft 9" tall, slim build and had a Scottish accent. His face was concealed with a balaclava. The guards didn't get a proper look
at the driver of the silver BMW, however do know that he was also white and spoke with a Scottish accent.

Appeal for information
Detective Inspector Scott McMillan is leading the investigation.
Speaking from Gorbals CID, he said:  "Inquiries have been ongoing in an effort to identify those responsible,
however in the meantime I would ask members of the public if they have any information at all to contact me.

"Thankfully both victims were uninjured, however as you can imagine they are extremely shaken following a traumatic ordeal and are recovering at home with their families.

"There is nothing to suggest this robbery is linked to any other cash in transit robberies in the Strathclyde force area, however naturally we are keeping an open mind and would appeal to members of the public to
help trace these two men.

"I would ask if anyone was in the area of Busby Road or Mearns Road on Monday night and saw two men acting suspiciously to contact me.

"If anyone has any information that they think could be helpful to the investigation - please contact police at Gorbals on telephone number 0141 532 5355."
