Campaign Against Violence Targets Domestic Abuse Print E-mail

"You’re not alone. We can help stop it’ – that is the message from Strathclyde Police as the Force launches the latest phase of its Campaign Against Violence.

Although domestic abuse happens all year round, the number of incidents reported to police during the festive season increase substantially suggesting that this time of year fuels more violent or threatening behaviour within the home.

In response to the Force’s continued commitment to tackling domestic abuse, the Chief Constable has appointed an experienced detective chief inspector as a domestic abuse co-ordinator, to oversee and support the Force’s response to such incidents. He will head up a new specialist domestic abuse task force, which will include 16 centrally located officers.  Working closely with divisional officers, the task force, will pro-actively identify and deal with the perpetrators of domestic abuse and target high risk offenders.

Strathclyde Police Chief Constable Stephen House said:

“Quite simply, domestic abuse is violent crime in a domestic context.  Violent crime is not acceptable and neither should domestic abuse.

“Tackling this unacceptable behaviour, and that is what it is, will always be a priority for the Force.
