East Renfrewshire Council- Community Safety First

Jim Sneddon, East Renfrewshire Council

Community safety is at the heart of what East Renfrewshire Council does and the council works with all of members of our community safety partnership to help make our area safer still, and for it to develop and be valued as a place in which to live, work and invest.

The council enjoys strong and effective links with Strathclyde Police and Strathclyde Fire and Rescue and directly provides our area-wide CCTV system, our Ring and Report Helpline, trading standards services and our community warden service. Partnership working supports a wide range of projects such as campus police officers,  the highly-successful Firereach youth development programme, two dedicated CCTV patrol vehicles on the streets at weekends, and specific crackdowns on particular criminal and anti-social behaviour.

A problem solving approach and working  closely with all partners to make a real difference to the quality of life of all the 89.000 people of East Renfrewshire is a council priority. That's  why it's a pleasure to work with the growing and increasingly effective East Renfrewshire Neighbourhood Watch Association, a valued community safety planning partner, which anchors the fight against crime and the fear of crime firmly at the very heart of our communities. We are very keen to see more Neighbourhood Watch schemes in our communities and fully support the association's fruitful drive to make that a growing reality across East Renfrewshire.

East Renfrewshire Neighbourhood Watch Association is a model of its type and the council has been very pleased to have been involved in the development of this website and in the many initiatives that the association has undertaken to boost community safety.

The council is pleased to continue to work with the association, both in the further development of this excellent website and on joint projects which share ours and the association's common aim of continuing to improve community safety throughout East Renfrewshire for the benefit of all residents, communities and businesses in East Renfrewshire and all visitors to our increasingly-safe area.
