ISSUES • There have been an increased number of unwanted fire alarm actuations (unnecessary actuations which do not involve fire) within the Barrhead area over the last six months. Station Commander Stephen Wright is currently working very closely with the individual organisations with a view to reducing these unnecessary fire calls.
• There has been a continued increase in the number of secondary fires within the area particularly within parts of Barrhead. Secondary fires are classed as grass, rubbish/ bins, tyres etc. This was particularly evident during the school holiday period and is typical for this time of year. Once again both Station Commanders have been working very closely with the local Council, Environmental Services, Police and the local schools to try and reduce these types of fire.
Strathclyde Fire & Rescue will continue in its commitment to deal with these types of incidents ensuring the continued safety of the local community but it is important to realise that whilst these deliberate fire setting incidents occur it is potentially taking fire cover away from the East Renfrewshire area which could have a devastating effect on a very real fire which may occur in any home within the area.
Future updates of this section will identify areas of concern and improvement on • Fire • Secondary fires • Road Traffic Collisions • Unwanted Fire Alarm (AFA) actuations • Special Services |
