The following is a copy of a post on David Macdonalds Facebook page.

Cllr David Macdonald - An Independent voice for people is in Busby, East Renfrewshire, United Kingdom.
12 May at 22:11 ·

These are very tough times and as someone who has suffered in the past from depression I know how difficult it can be to travel through life carrying the extra weight of depression, anxiety, bereavement or loneliness.

If you are out there and feel alone please know that you are absolutely not alone. Please don't feel you have to suffer in silence.

Sometimes people just need a pair of listening ears or just a chat about anything really just to lift them up a bit.

If you or someone you know in ward 4 could benefit from a simple chat on the phone please feel free to give me a bell. If I don't answer leave me a message or send me a text and I'll try my best to get back to you as soon as I can.

All calls will be treated in the strictest of confidence. As an elected Councillor I am here to represent you. As a person I am here to just listen.

I'm not a medical practitioner so I can't give medical advice but if you want to just get something off your chest
I'm here.

We would have to suggest that Bereavement Counseling is a very specialist area, as is Depression Counseling.

Every resident of Ward 4, Netherlee, Stamperland, Williamwood, Clarkston and Busby currently have access to fully qualified Councellors, Psychologists or Psychiatrists.

Phoning Samaritians you will get to speak with a trained listening volunteer.

We are also aware that as a very basic these volunteers are trained in what not to say if they suspect someone may be contemplating suicide.

We are unaware if Macdonald possesses any of the training.

What would he do if he was faced with someone discussing taking their own life, contact the authorities, the persons GP, and is he capable of assessing wording that would indicate a willingness to take their own life immanently, or a plea for help, etc?

A million and one scenarios, is he trained for this or is it just good will on his part, which is possibly not thought through?.

My own personal opinion is that this is a very specialist area and for a well meaning punter, with absolutely no training to get involved, could be very dangerous.

A lot of unintentional damage could be caused.

However I certainly would hope that it is not just another of his latest PR exercises.

In my opinion he would appear to be wishing to become all things to all men.
