We have the result of our Freedom of Information Request (FOI) regarding our Cllrs expense claims over the past year.

Time once again for our yearly review of Councillors Expenses.

It is very pleasing to see that this year there have been very few claims.

In addition instead of using private vehicles to travel to Edinburgh, trains are being used and 'concessionary' tickets are being purchased by those eligible.

There have been no claims for travel by taxi and domestic travel (Travel within East Ren) has once again remained static with only one member making these claims.

Before we commenced reporting on Cllrs Expenses a number of years ago there would be regular mileage claims in relation to journeys as short as 2 miles.

After we exposed this the claims stopped, with the exception of Cllr Barbara Grant, and this year she has continued.

It has to be said a Cllrs place of 'work' is their home and any journey they undertake on council business is claimable.

Cllr Grant claims for 4 miles to travel from her home on Mearns Road to Eastwood Park (Council HQ).

45p per mile is the rate, therefore she is reimbursed £1.80p for the journey, and of course the same for the return journey.

We can see that Cllr Grant is a very active Cllr who drives to :-

Leisure Trust meetings at both Barrhead and Eastwood House.

Meetings at ERC H.Q. (Where she is a member of the council and or committees where she is a member)

Meetings of committees where she is not a member
(Planning, Cabinet).

Pre - Audit meetings (Covered in another thread)

An average of three visits to Planning at Spiersbridge each month.

Conservative group meeting that appear to be once a week.

Flag raising ceremonies.

(On average a monthly claim of approximately £40/50)

Three Cllrs attended.
