As we have not been in a position to produce 'Crime Mapping' since 2011 it will only be right and proper to remind everyone what this facility is all about.

The facility that Alan Murray, the then area police commander apparently wanted to remove from the public at the request of politicians, for their benefit, and we would have to suggest to the detriment of the public.

Some bright spark, and it would appear to be a member of Information Management, says in 2011 it was thought that we were plotting crimes.

We had been plotting crimes since 2006 with the blessing of the senior police command at East Renfrewshire and the Divisional HQ in Govan and these crime updates continued through the good offices of four area commanders, until the appointment of Murray.

2009 saw the first digital mapping, the first of its kind in Scotland.

The bright spark also says that we are identifying individuals.

This whole enterprise came about when we observed that East Renfrewshire put out a daily sheet of crimes to the local newspapers. They reported on a few of them one week later. We were aware that we could put all of these out on a daily basis and much more visually and to provide a pattern.

Strathclyde Police added us to the distribution list and provided the basic details of the crime and the location, ie. Hutchieson Road, Thornliebank.

We were never provided with the house number and when we plotted the crime on our map it was just against the street location.

No individual was ever identified.

The bright spark also states that we were identifying patterns, yes that was the whole purpose.

The information that was displayed came from Strathclyde Police.

Our very first post on this thread 3 years and 6 months ago.

Regular viewers of this site will be aware just how useful a resource these are for the public of East Renfrewshire.

However on 15th June 2011 we received this email from Giffnock Police Office.

Due to an ongoing review by Strathclyde Police Force Headquarters, with immediate effect, no media updates will be issued by Giffnock Area Command Support until further notice

This latest disclosure is very significant, and in our opinion it fully supports our premise that this was always a political decision, carried out by Murray.
