In 2005 there was no NHW in East Renfrewshire as it had been permitted to wither and die, by the local police.

There was an obvious need for an association to encompass, encourage and support membership of NHW and the ERNHW was born.

Not only was NHW re born, it was re branded and moved on a pace as our members are interested in all aspects of community, no longer just Billy Burglar.

Up to this point NHW traditionally had been led by the Police, however at this time we took over the lead and altered the connection with the police.

This proved to be very beneficial with the Senior Police Management supporting this association in every aspect.

We operated a web blog prior to the introduction of this web site, and it was also very popular.

Our then Sub Divisional Officer Stewart Daniels used ERNHW as one of his many examples as to why East Renfrewshire Sub Division should retain a Superintendent in the change to management structures that were being implemented in Strathclyde.

Namely that Sub Divisions were to be run by Chief Inspectors, and not Superintendents.

He was successfull in his task was was kept in position until his retirement.

Regular meetings, discussions and communications meant that he was always going to be missed and we purchased gifts for his retirement.

His replacement, Superintendent McDougall was equally supportive of NHW and was in attendance at our official launch of this web site.

He was transferred to Govan and later the post was moved down to being one for a Chief Inspector.

His deputy Chief Inspector Kenny Graham then took over the role of Area Commander and the cooperation and coordination continued.

Initiatives and innovative joint actions were developed which were to the benefit of the police, ERC and the public.

Supt McDougall is accompanied by Communities Inspector Jackson who instructed her officers to stop wasting time preparing crime stats for Community Council meetings, instead she instructed that the CC's could view this web site to see what crime was being committed via the crime alerts.

Insp Kate Jackson retired and was replaced by another Communities Inspector, Campbell Crawford and one of the first things that he did was make contact, had a meeting and offered his continued support.

Chief Inspector Kenny Graham retired and once again due to his tremendous support we purchased gifts for his retirement as an indication of our gratitude

Throughout this period the forum has been operating and the content has never altered.

However prior to his retirment we were made aware that he had been approached by Councillor Montague at an ERC Cabinet Meeting and requested to with draw Strathclyde Police from this web site.

The then Chief Superintendent Robin Howe was also present and the request was declined as they both were of the opinion that the comments on the forum were not political.

What was said was that the comments are criticle of the administration and have never been critical of either Police Management or Strathlcyde Police, and that the chief inspector had no intention of "bitting of his nose to spite his face"

This had been the second attempt in the space of a few weeks as Jim Sneddon had emailed requesting that the police with draw from the site, a request that had also been refused.

It has to be said that for the past five years Strathclyde Police have been issuing to NHW crime alerts, for the purpose as stated previously. We also developed the crime mapping system, even before it was rolled out over the whole of England and Wales.

Additionally this site has always featured Police, Fire & Rescue, and Council sub sites.
